If you have a yard, great! Ensure that your pet spends some quality time out there. If not, aim to take your pet for walks around the block or to a nearby park. Dog parks are also excellent areas for giving your dog room to run and enjoy time socializing. Getting some fresh air and exercise will do wonders for their health and happiness – and yours!
Make time for playtime.
It is critical to keep their minds active since a bored pet is more prone to get into trouble. What your pet wants more than anything is to have fun playing with you! This is highly relevant if your pet doesn’t have much room to run around indoors or if your pet is gifted. Clever pets tend to get bored more easily. But regardless of what kind of pet you have, you can keep your pet healthy and active by playing engaging, active games.
Invest in a good scratching post and indoor toys.
If your pet is going to be spending most of their time indoors, make sure they have lots of ways to stay entertained. A nice scratching post can keep your cats’ claws healthy and give them something to scratch besides your furniture! Cats may also love places to climb and explore, primarily near a window. For dogs, indoor toys such as puzzle feeders and Kongs may keep their minds active and help them avoid boredom.
Train your pet early on.
A well-trained pet is more likely to be well-behaved and less prone to cause damage to your rental home. If you have a new puppy or kitten, begin training them at the earliest possible time on things including potty training, chewing, and scratching. It’s also recommended to provide your pet a cozy sleeping area all their own and train them to go to it on command. This can help keep them out from underfoot when coming in, going out the door, or having guests.
Give your pet plenty of love and attention.
This one goes without saying, but it’s the most important thing you can do for your pet! No matter how big or small your living space is, give your furry friend plenty of love and attention. They’ll return the favor by being loyal and loving companions. They’ll also be happier and healthier for it!
